Dr Al Danenberg a nutritional Periodontist, once asked his grandson what makes potato chips so good- he replied that they were crunchy and salty. But they are over -processed carbohydrates, unhealthy fats and have excessive salt and chemicals and do not have most nutrients!
How can we get crunchier healthy snacks?
Crunching can come from apple slices, celery sticks, cucumber or carrots- they could be dipped into organic peanut butter or organic almond butter or organic coconut butter for added nutrients and taste.
Another crispy choice is Jicama slices. Jicama is a root vegetable, with the texture of a firm pear and the flavor of a sweet apple- they are great for dipping too!
Candy is just not healthy- it is all sugar with some added chemicals- Try substituting with a handful of nuts, seeds, raisins- they are loaded with good nutrients!
What about something cold? Ice Cream is loaded with sugar and chemicals: Organic, unsweetened, full-fat yogurt is a healthy substitute- They even have it at Uncle Ray’s Dairy-land
!- Add slices of whole fruit like berries!
Want some thing to drink? – Avoid all sodas- they are all loaded with unhealthy chemicals and acids- Sugar and acids cause tooth decay as well as gut problems. Artificial sweeteners by themselves can damage healthy bacteria in the gut. Instead of sodas consider water, teas seltzers that have no chemicals. If you want to use a sweetener try organic stevia or organic monk fruit (Luo Han Guo)
